Ararat Mirzoyan: The Armenian Government Has No Agenda to Sever Political, Economic, and Other Ties with Russia

The Armenian government has no agenda to sever political, economic, and other ties with Russia. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during an interview with Petros Ghazaryan on First Channel, where he spoke about establishing peace with Azerbaijan.

“This is directly communicated to our international partners as well, to avoid any misunderstandings. We are deepening our relations, building connections with various geopolitical centers so that they correctly understand our expectations,” he said.

Mirzoyan also noted that severing ties with Russia should not be equated with membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). “We are currently a member state of the EAEU, and we have beneficial cooperation within the EAEU framework. If one day the question arises to join the European Union, we will all sit down and discuss it. It will become a subject of discussion,” he emphasized.

“Our relations with the European Union are increasingly deepening, yes, this is not the end. We have a law in Armenia that essentially obliges the executive branch to initiate the process of EU membership. This is law, this is known to everyone in the world, and it comes with obligations. Therefore, where we are today is not the end. I want us to look at the dynamics of recent times. If we are talking about the EU, let’s see where we are heading,” said the Foreign Minister.
