Russian Foreign Ministry Employee Sentenced to 12 Years for Cooperation with U.S. Intelligence
The Moscow City Court has sentenced Arseniy Konovalov, a former employee of Russia's Foreign Ministry, to 12 years in prison for his connections with American intelligence. This has been reported by Interfax.
“The Moscow City Court delivered a guilty verdict against Arseniy Sergeyevich Konovalov, a citizen of the Russian Federation born in 1987, who was arrested by FSB officers in March 2024 for collaborating with foreign special services,” the media outlet stated.
He is also facing a fine of 100,000 rubles and a one-year restriction of freedom.
“As a result of operational and investigative measures carried out by the security agencies, it was revealed that Konovalov, while being an employee of the Russian Foreign Ministry on a long-term foreign trip in the United States, voluntarily transferred classified information he obtained through his service to American intelligence in exchange for monetary compensation,” the special services announced.
A criminal case has been initiated and investigated by the FSB's investigative department under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (state treason).
