What Interests Does the U.S. Have in the Peace Settlement Program in Ukraine?
The peace settlement program for the conflict in Ukraine contains provisions that directly pertain to U.S. economic interests. This is reported by the New York Times (NYT).
The newspaper draws attention to a point that envisages the creation of an investment fund aimed at financing Ukraine's reconstruction. According to NYT, American companies will participate in the reconstruction projects, which will also extend to the energy sector.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has noted that the fund will attract both public and private investors. He stated that the U.S. and Europe could each invest 100 billion dollars into the fund.
“It remains unclear where this money will come from and whether European countries have agreed to this program. The ultimate goal is to raise up to 800 billion dollars for Ukraine's reconstruction,” the publication writes.
