No Case, Just Prolonged Intense Detention: Aram Vardevanyan

In Armenia, as we approach the year 2026, the news cycle and objective reality once again focus on coercive measures. Samvel Karapetyan has been unlawfully detained for over six months now. This was reported by lawyer Aram Vardevanyan.

“There is no case, there is just prolonged intense detention by logic. We then recall that four Holy Fathers are unlawfully detained, and we have numerous political prisoners. Commander Ashot Minasyan (who has reached 65 years of age and has health issues) has been imprisoned again based on the Prosecutor's Office's appeal as per the ruling of the Court of Appeals. This means that the most basic legal and humanitarian values have been ignored.

Moreover, former officials have been arrested, definitely for the purpose of detention presentation. We also remember that there are many alternative precautionary measures in Armenia (house arrest, administrative supervision) that simply do not function in cases of public significance. Clearly, this enforces the degradation of law and humanity.
