Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan published a photo on his Facebook page and wrote: "On March 1, 2008, when the army was sent against the people in the center of Yerevan and 10 people were killed, the Russian businessman’s brother Karen Karapetyan (not to be confused with another Russian businessman) was the head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia faction. Six months later, as a direct result of these bloody events, he was appointed the Chief of Staff to 'President' Serzh Sargsyan. But they have no connection to the former officials. No ties with either the former officials or with foreign capital and interests. The only connection is with God. The picture shows the memorial dedicated to the victims of March 1, symbolizing the brutal assault of evil against the light."
