Vagif Khachatryan Arrested in Azerbaijan Hospitalized
Vagif Khachatryan, who was arrested in Azerbaijan, has been hospitalized. This was reported by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice.
“The health condition of 70-year-old convict Vagif Khachatryan has deteriorated; he has experienced breathing difficulties and heart pain. He received first aid at the Ministry of Justice's main medical department and was then urgently transferred to the Ministry of Justice's medical facility. Intensive therapy and resuscitation were carried out there, but as no significant improvement in his condition was observed, he was transferred to a relevant state medical institution for high-quality medical assistance. Currently, his condition is assessed as serious, and intensive therapy continues,” the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice reported.
It is noteworthy that in July 2023, Azerbaijani forces abducted Vagif Khachatryan, a citizen of the Republic of Artsakh, from the bridge of Hakhari. He was on his way to Yerevan for heart surgery, accompanied by his daughter.
Furthermore, as of September 3 of this year, the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Baku is no longer operational, having been closed at the request of the authorities. As a result, Armenian prisoners and hostages unlawfully held in Baku were deprived of their only means of contacting their families. However, we previously reported that recently, Vagif Khachatryan, sentenced to 15 years in prison, managed to establish contact with his family members in Baku.
