Trump Cannot Annex Other Countries, Says Danish Prime Minister

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen have demanded that U.S. President Donald Trump respect their borders, as reported by The Guardian.

The officials’ statement came after the appointment of a special U.S. envoy for Greenland. It is worth noting that Trump has repeatedly asserted that the autonomous territory should be under U.S. control.

“We have made this very clear before. Now we reiterate it: national borders and the sovereignty of states are based on international law. You cannot annex other countries,” said Frederiksen and Nielsen, adding that “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders,” and the U.S. should not try to take it.
