Train Loaded with Russian Wheat is Sent to Armenia via Azerbaijan

For the first time since the 1990s, wagons loaded with wheat have departed from the Gmelinka station in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation, heading to Armenia through Azerbaijan. This was reported by Russian media, referencing the press service of the Volga railway.

The first batch of wheat, consisting of 7 wagons, is already on its way to Yerevan. By the end of 2025, it is planned to send 30 wagons—totaling 2,000 tons of wheat—via this route.

On November 6, a shipment of Russian wheat arrived in Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, totaling around 1,000 tons. On November 8, another shipment of Kazakh wheat, also 1,000 tons, reached Armenia through Azerbaijan.

Prior to this, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan had lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia through its territory. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan welcomed this decision from Azerbaijan, stating that Armenia had likewise removed all restrictions for goods transported to Azerbaijan through its territory.

On November 6, the Russian Ministry of Transport announced that an additional 132 wagons of wheat will be exported to Armenia via the railway route passing through Azerbaijan before the end of January 2026.
