South Korea Plans to Launch Next-Generation High-Speed Train
South Korea has completed the development of core technologies for a next-generation high-speed train that can reach speeds of up to 370 kilometers per hour, according to the Yonhap news agency.
The technologies are designed for a technically calculated maximum speed of 407 km/h. The project has been implemented from April 2022 to December 2025, under the leadership of the Korea Railroad Research Institute.
The government plans to begin production of the first trains next year, conduct testing in 2030, and commercialize the service after 2031. Once it enters commercial operation, the EMU-370 electric train will become the second-fastest commercial train in the world.
