Iran Halts Gas Supply to Iraq

Iran has completely halted its gas supply to Iraq's power plants, causing Iraq's electricity grid to lose up to 4,500 megawatts of electric power. This was reported by the spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Mousa, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

“The Iranian side has sent a telegram to the Ministry of Electricity, informing them of the complete cessation of gas supply due to unforeseen circumstances. Iranian gas supplies have been entirely halted, resulting in the loss of 4,000 to 4,500 megawatts of electric power in the grid,” Mousa stated. He added that the ministry, in coordination with the Ministry of Oil, has switched to using local alternative fuels to keep the power plants operational, although some of them are “suffering from a lack of gas.”
