I Think, Yes, It’s Rude but Very Appropriate to Respond: Galjyan

In a recent press conference at Yerevan City Hall on December 23, Armen Galjyan, the leader of the City Council faction of the ruling Civil Contract Party (CPP), commented on the opposition's reactions during council meetings. He noted that the opposition members shout from their seats without microphones, making their non-broadcast words inaudible. This statement came in light of opposition members' complaints that Mayor Tigran Avinyan used inappropriate language, claiming, "You are not in your own street."

“The mayor's responses are heard over the air, but theirs are not, and they are trying to present the noise as something the mayor created, despite the illogicality of having a calm meeting and the mayor making such statements. Naturally, there have been some words from the floor that the mayor has responded to. I think, yes, it’s rude but very appropriate to respond,” he said.

Journalists also inquired whether the CPP's ruling body had confirmed Galjyan’s candidacy for inclusion in the CPP's electoral list for the 2026 elections. He confirmed that he received a positive response.

It is noted that the nominations must ultimately be confirmed at the CPP congress, where it will also become clear which position on the list each candidate will occupy.
