Yerevan is Ready for Winter, But There is One Persistent Issue: Kamo Areyan

This year's winter months have seen the establishment of a plan for snow removal and sanitation activities, with all responsible bodies informed. This was reported to Yerevan's mayor Tigran Avinyan during the city’s operational meeting by his advisor Kamo Areyan.

“Resource allocation has been completed. Currently, there are 241 units of equipment involved, of which 216 are from the various scale equipment of the Yerevan Lifeguard Service, and 25 are from the Municipal Sanitization Service. From human resources, there are 614 workers, of which 339 are employees of the Yerevan Lifeguard Service, and 275 are from the Municipal Sanitization Service. The leaders of the administrative districts are aware of the resource distribution, and they bear full responsibility for organizing the work on-site,” he stated.

Areyan emphasized that the resources currently available are sufficiently prepared; however, there is one ongoing issue that the city consistently faces. “It pertains to the adherence to the 2009 decision of the Yerevan Council regarding the rules for mandatory sanitation by all business entities. According to this decision, everyone is also obliged to clean their assigned service areas—streets, adjacent spaces—during the winter months. Additionally, in the context of winter preparation work, administrative district leaders are to notify these business operators of their obligations. The concern is that, as of now, according to information collected from the administrative districts, out of 9,088 business operators, only 4,156 have received notifications,” Areyan clarified.

He added that the Kanaker-Zeitun administrative district has notified 100% of its operators, with Nubarashen and Norq-Marash at rates between 85% to 80%. In the remaining administrative districts, notifications have been conducted at almost half the required rate.
