New Requirements Established by Construction Norms to Reduce Impact on Atmospheric Air

In order to minimize the impact of the construction factor on atmospheric air pollution issues, new requirements have been set. This was reported by the Committee for Urban Development.

The regulations titled “Organization of Construction Production”, which will be published soon on the arlis.am platform, will enter into force.

“Measures for more efficient environmental protection through the application of modern technologies are outlined in various stages of construction. Specifically, emissions from the construction site must be monitored throughout the construction works, implementing dust suppression measures and using low-emission equipment,” the report states.

The norms provide detailed descriptions of the requirements for air purification systems, including dust collectors, dust suppressors, and water mist-generating equipment. Moreover, it is a mandatory requirement to equip the construction site with air quality monitoring devices.

During the organization of the construction site, it has been specified that temporary roads must be paved with concrete or other hard surfaces, while remaining soil surfaces should be covered with gravel layers to exclude dust generation from roads and soil-covered surfaces.

Requirements have also been established for proper site equipment, regular cleaning, the use of dust protective barriers and nets, as well as the handling, storage, and transport of materials.

Documenting measures for managing dust and smoke generated during construction will allow for mitigating the potential impact of ongoing active construction on atmospheric air, both in Yerevan and across the entire Republic, thus reducing the construction factor in air pollution issues.

The development of the new version of the “Organization of Construction Production” norms was indicated in the annual list of rules to be developed and updated by the Committee for Urban Development, and it was later included in the Armenian Government's decision on approving the comprehensive action plan for air protection for the years 2025-2030,” the statement reads.
