EU and NATO Could Push the World to the Brink of World War III: Russian MFA
The European Union and NATO are pursuing a reckless course that could bring the world to the brink of a third world war, stated Yuri Pilipson, Director of the Second European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with TASS.
“In reality, Romania's national security is threatened not by Russia, as mentioned in the referenced document (updated national defense strategy for 2025-2030), but by Bucharest's adherence to the aggressive and reckless course of the EU and NATO. Their leadership, in turn, is willing to push the world to the brink of a third world war for their own selfish interests,” the diplomat said. He believes that “these people hardly understand the real meaning of such a grim prospect.”
Pilipson described the national defense strategy adopted in Romania in November as “yet another example of the shortsighted policy of the current Bucharest elite,” which, according to him, effectively plans for a long-term conflict with Russia.
He assessed the document as “more of a collection of imaginary claims aimed at blaming Russia for the deterioration of the socio-economic situation in Romania, as well as justifying the increase in military spending in the eyes of their own citizens. The latter, in turn, doubt that a significant portion of the funds allocated for 'defense,' as often happens, actually reaches its intended purpose.”
