US Begins Release of Epstein Case Documents

The U.S. Department of Justice has commenced the release of tens of thousands of documents related to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of trafficking individuals for sexual exploitation. According to Armenpress, the materials are being published under the "Epstein Files Transparency Act," which was approved by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Donald Trump about a month ago. The first package of archival documents was posted on the Justice Department's website on December 19. In the coming weeks, tens of thousands of files related to the case are expected to be released.

The Department notes that a significant portion of the published documents, both texts and photographs, have been edited. It is mentioned that all reasonable measures have been taken to protect the personal information of victims; however, due to the large volume of data, it is possible that some sensitive information may have inadvertently remained in certain materials.

According to U.S. media reports, the documents released do not contain significant new information regarding Epstein's connections to influential businessmen or politicians. It is noted that President Donald Trump is rarely mentioned in the documents, while numerous photographs featuring former U.S. President Bill Clinton are included in the archive. Among others, the photos also show singer Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Jeffrey Epstein was accused of sexually exploiting underage girls and providing them to influential individuals. He was first convicted in 2008 for the charge of soliciting prostitution, resulting in a plea deal that led to a 13-month prison sentence. In July 2019, Epstein was arrested again for trafficking charges, but he died by suicide in his New York cell in August of that same year.
