Vigen Euljekchyan's Wife Appeals to Mehriban Aliyeva
Linda Euljekchyan has sent a letter to Azerbaijan's First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, requesting clemency for her husband, Vigen Euljekchyan, who has been imprisoned for nearly five years, according to Azerbaijani media reports.
In her letter, she elaborates on the family's difficult situation: her husband was unable to say goodbye to his deceased mother, while her own mother is currently battling cancer. The prisoner's wife emphasizes that granting clemency would be an act of compassion, allowing the family to reunite and their father to return to his children.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan illegally arrested Vigen Euljekchyan and Maral Najaryan in Nagorno-Karabakh and took them to Baku on November 10, 2020, just one day after the end of the 44-day war. In 2021, Maral Najaryan was released; however, Vigen Euljekchyan continues to be unlawfully held in a Baku prison. A Baku court sentenced him to 20 years in prison based on a fabricated trial.
Additionally, it should be mentioned that the recent announcement of an amnesty in Azerbaijan may pertain to up to 20,000 prisoners and could include Vigen Euljekchyan, which instills hope for the family.
