Proposal to Make Support for Third Child Born in Family a State Benefit
The Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia discussed on December 17 in an extraordinary session the legislative package on amendments to the Law on State Benefits and the Law on State Pensions. The package proposes that the government make the support for the third and each subsequent child born in a family a state benefit.
According to Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs David Khachatryan, it is also proposed to flatten the amount of one-time childbirth benefits. Currently, the amount provided for the first and second child is 300,000 AMD, while for the third and fourth child it is 1 million AMD, and for the fifth and subsequent children, it is 1.5 million AMD. The proposal is to set a uniform amount of 500,000 AMD for all children.
Other changes are also being proposed. David Khachatryan noted that the project has not changed since its first reading due to the lack of suggestions. The committee has given a positive conclusion to the package.
