26,233 Displaced Citizens Have Received Citizenship, Says Khachatryan
During a discussion in parliament regarding the approval of the loan agreement on residential reforms for the THRIVE program between the Republic of Armenia, the Asian Development Bank, and the Asian Republic of Armenia, deputy of the Civil Contract Party Babken Tunyan directed a question to Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Davit Khachatryan. He reminded that our compatriots who have been forcibly displaced from Artsakh must obtain Armenian citizenship in order to benefit from this program. He also stated that recently there have been rumors circulating that Armenia is effectively denying citizenship to many.
Tunyan asked Khachatryan to comment on these circulating rumors and to provide data on how many people have applied for Armenian citizenship to date and how many have been denied. The Deputy Minister responded: "As of today, I can provide the numbers. A total of 26,233 displaced compatriots have received citizenship, out of which 16,919 are adults and 8,314 are minors. The number of individuals who have applied for citizenship and are still in the processing stage is 6,696 people."
