Draft Law on the Acquisition of Electric Motor Vehicles
The draft law proposes to allow the import of electric motor vehicles without VAT in 2026, with the exception of freight vehicles. During today’s extraordinary session of the National Assembly’s Permanent Commission on Economic Issues, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan presented the draft law on amendments to the Tax Code, highlighting that proposals were received from parliament members to also include electric freight vehicles, which have now been added to the list.
The main speaker responded to the questions from the deputies, providing clarifications regarding the timelines outlined in the draft law, the manufacturing year of imported vehicles, and the quotas to be provided to dealers.
The adoption of this draft law will create favorable conditions for the acquisition and operation of electric motor vehicles in the country, aimed at reducing atmospheric air pollution. Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Economic Issues Babken Tunyan noted that the proposed amendment is an important step forward.
The revised draft has received a positive conclusion and will be discussed at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly scheduled for December 16.
