Calls for UK Prime Minister to Delete Hanukkah Post Following Shooting Incident

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is under pressure to delete a post he made on social media platform X, in which he offered congratulations for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, following a shooting incident at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, which occurred during a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony, reports the Daily Mail.

According to the newspaper, shortly after the news of the shooting in Sydney emerged, Starmer posted on X expressing hope that Hanukkah would bring "hope, peace, and comfort" to Jewish communities. An hour later, in a subsequent post, he expressed Britain's condolences to Australia and noted that he was being informed about the incident.

"The Prime Minister has faced calls on social media to delete his previous post in which he expressed hope that Hanukkah would bring hope, peace, and comfort to Jewish communities... Users on X have urged the Prime Minister to 'check the news' and 'turn on the TV'," the paper wrote.
