City Hall Plans to Change the Colors of Yerevan's Flag and Coat of Arms: Hovsep Kubatyan

The City Hall is preparing to change the colors of Yerevan's flag and coat of arms to blue. This was announced by Hovsep Kubatyan, the former head of the public relations and information department of the Yerevan Municipality, on his Facebook page.

He noted that the issue is included in the agenda for the Yerevan Council's meeting on December 23.

“The change in the color of the Yerevan coat of arms and flag expresses the city's aspiration toward a modern and minimalist identity while remaining faithful to national symbols. The flag of the Republic of Armenia consists of horizontal equal bands of red, blue, and orange from top to bottom. The blue color symbolizes the Armenian people's desire for a peaceful and creative life, their will to live under a peaceful sky,” the justification states.

It is also noted that the current and future development of Yerevan aims to create a harmonious, modern urban environment in the heart of Armenia.

“The color changes of Yerevan's coat of arms and flag express a new philosophy of the city's character—a transition towards innovation, modernization, and sustainable development,” the decision draft states.

It is mentioned that it will also promote the visibility of the city's symbols on electronic platforms, making it more modern and in line with new branding. According to the project, the color change has symbolic, artistic, and branding justification.
