We Should Not Have Signed a Document with Azerbaijan That Limits Our Communications with the EU – Marukyan

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has issued a statement claiming that the recently signed new document between Armenia and the EU contradicts the peace agenda. This was noted by Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ party, during a live broadcast on his Facebook page.

He specifically mentioned, “They insist that the document should not have stated that there are refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh in the Republic of Armenia. It is written very mildly; it does not state that ethnic cleansing has occurred, but it states that there are refugees in the Republic of Armenia. There is also a provision about the European observer mission in Armenia, while the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry claims that according to the so-called draft peace treaty's seventh article, it is also problematic.”

“Overall, Azerbaijan believes that the document signed between Armenia and the European Union contradicts the peace agenda, and they are also very dissatisfied that it does not mention TRIPP but rather 'peace crossroads,' which they assert has no consensus in the region,” Marukyan added.

Marukyan emphasized that we should not have signed a document with Azerbaijan that limits the Republic of Armenia's sovereignty in its communications with the EU. “You will also see in the future what issues and what restrictions we will have,” he stressed.
