Trump: Ukraine's NATO Membership Prospects Have Never Been Seriously Discussed

In an interview with Politico, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO has 'never been seriously discussed', a claim he insists has been known even before Putin's time.

'It has always been understood. Ukraine will not join NATO. To be honest, it was known well before Putin. And now they insist. When Zelensky first met with Putin, he said, 'I want two things: the return of Crimea and NATO membership.' And he didn't say it very kindly. He is a great seller,' the U.S. President noted.

It is worth mentioning that Trump’s peace plan calls for Kyiv to abandon its NATO membership aspirations, a point Ukraine finds unacceptable.
