Germany is Highly Interested in Armenia's Alignment with Europe: Merz

Germany is highly interested in Armenia's alignment with Europe. This was affirmed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, addressing the question of whether Germany is ready to support the creation of new opportunities for Armenia's deep integration with the EU, including in economic, energy, and institutional sectors.

“We have a great interest in Armenia's alignment with Europe. We have agreements on specific projects, and Germany will also assist Armenia in several projects in the energy supply sector to achieve greater independence in this area,” Merz stated.

He emphasized that they have discussed this matter in great detail with the Prime Minister of Armenia and have reached relevant agreements, which have also been formally documented. There is a bilateral agreement to work closely together in the coming years.

“After the peace with Azerbaijan, there is a historic opportunity to establish this process on a broad, stable, and European foundation,” the German Chancellor noted. According to him, Europe also holds significant appeal for the countries in the South Caucasus region.
