China Huarong International Holdings Executive Sentenced to Death for Bribery

The court today sentenced Bai Tianhui, former executive director of China Huarong International Holdings, to death for accepting nearly $156 million in bribes, according to China Central Television.

Investigators report that between 2014 and 2018, Bai abused his official position to help others secure project contracts and corporate financing. In return, he illegally received cash and material assets amounting to 1.108 billion yuan (approximately $156 million).

In May 2024, the court sentenced Bai to death for accepting particularly large bribes. He has been stripped of his political rights, and his personal assets have been confiscated. The television network notes that in February of this year, the court rejected his appeal and upheld the death sentence, despite Bai cooperating with the investigation and providing significant evidence to resolve other cases.
