Trump Approves New Generation of Naval Forces Program

U.S. President Trump has approved a new generation naval forces program called the "Golden Fleet." The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of the Navy John Fallon during the Reagan National Defense Forum in California.

According to him, the program approved by the president includes:

  • A new type of American frigate platform differing from the Constellation class, which Fallon had canceled shortly before Thanksgiving. This project was based on designs adopted by French and Italian naval forces.
  • Modernized tankers, oilers, and supply ships, which Fallon referred to in his speech as "underrated heroes."
  • A "very significant" fleet of unmanned transport vehicles. Earlier at the conference, Fallon informed reporters about a $392 million contract signed with Saronic, a company producing unmanned boats.
  • Fallon also stated that the U.S. will continue to build ships including aircraft carriers, minesweepers, amphibious ships, and submarines. However, this will require "modern ships."
