Defense Team Addresses Health Concerns of Mikhail Srabazani

The defense team for the detained Mikhail Srabazani has issued a statement regarding his upcoming surgery. According to a decision made by the Armenian government on May 26, 2006, and considering that Mikhail Srabazani has expressed a desire to undergo surgery at the Izmirlian Medical Center at his own expense, attorney Ara Zograbyan has contacted the Armenian Ministry of Justice's Penitentiary Service on October 7, 2025, seeking assistance in organizing Mikhail (Georg) Azhapahyan's surgery, including the transfer of Mikhail Arky. Azhapahyan's consent to the state non-commercial organization 'Penitentiary Medicine Center.'

Subsequently, the defense attorney filed requests with the Penitentiary Medicine Center on October 29, November 6, and November 10, 2025. The requests included relevant medical documents, Mikhail Srabazani's written consent, and expectations for the organization of his surgery and treatment of another illness through the Izmirlian Medical Center.

According to our information, Mikhail Srabazani was offered by the Penitentiary Medicine Center to choose another hospital apart from the Izmirlian Medical Center; however, Mikhail Srabazani argued that he has previously received treatment for his illnesses at the Izmirlian Medical Center, he has a doctor there, and he trusts that hospital and doctor.

On November 28, 2025, the director of the Penitentiary Medicine Center acknowledged in a letter that a planned surgery is necessary but only noted that Mikhail Srabazani has refused free medical assistance. As we can see, there has been no response in the mentioned letter regarding the request for Mikhail Srabazani to have surgery and treatment at the Izmirlian Medical Center at his own expense.

The defense team expresses its concern regarding the Penitentiary Medicine Center's position and the sluggishness shown in addressing issues related to Srabazani's health and is prepared to take necessary measures to protect Mikhail Srabazani's right to health.
