What to Do and Not Do During an Earthquake: Ministry of Internal Affairs

Lilit T.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia has released an informative video detailing what actions to take during an earthquake while using public transportation.

According to the Ministry, during an earthquake, it may seem that the vehicle's wheel is damaged or that the car is uncontrollable. "During an earthquake, the driver of public transport should slow down but avoid making abrupt stops to prevent passenger injuries. Once the doors of the public transport vehicle open, passengers should evacuate without panic to the safest open area possible. If there are injured individuals, first aid should be provided if feasible.

Remember that the transport vehicle should always carry a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a flashlight, and water. Follow official information for further actions.

Dear drivers, parking is prohibited under or on bridges, near multi-story buildings, under power lines and electrical poles, under billboards, near trees, retaining walls, or gas stations. Vehicles should be parked in the most open areas possible, at a safe distance from other vehicles. In such cases, passengers may remain seated, but if the vehicle is in a hazardous location, evacuation of passengers should be arranged to the safest area, and authorities should be informed about the situation. After shocks cease, do not move until official information regarding the safety of the roads has been received," the statement concludes.
