Construction Begins Near Armenia's Border in Nakhchivan: Aghayev
“Azerbaijan Railways” has completed the design work for the reconstruction and modernization of railway infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This was announced by Arif Aghayev, the Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways.
He noted that construction has now begun near the border with Armenia, in the area of the SalamMalik station in the Ordubad district. “The construction works involve a railway line of 188 km in length. The goal is to create a new railway network that meets modern requirements. After the renovations are completed, the annual capacity of the railway will be 15 million tons,” he stated.
The official reminded that on August 8, 2025, in Washington, Ilham Aliyev signed a historic agreement on the opening of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), under which railway communications along the route will be restored, becoming one of the key branches of the North-South transport route.
