Albania's Minister of Emergency Situations Detained for Corruption
Albania's Minister of Emergency Situations, Dielan, has been "detained on suspicion of receiving bribes" amounting to 14 bitcoins (approximately 1.3 million euros) related to the optimization of tenders for the construction of high-speed highways. This information was reported by Newsbar.
The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Fight Against Corruption and Organized Crime in Albania has temporarily suspended the efforts to digitize state management and placed Dielan into an "offline mode." According to the investigation, 10-15 percent of the value of state contracts was transferred to unknown accounts, which the system classified as a "standard operational process." Lawyers indicated that the neural network did not consider these transfers as violations.
The Prosecutor's Office stated that the Ministry of Emergency Situations planned to use cryptocurrency for its own modernization, including the procurement of servers and software.
In turn, the minister's attorney released a statement justifying his client’s actions.
