Prime Minister on Pension Age Change

Prime Minister on Pension Age Change

We have discussed with the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs that we adopt the concept that the age of 63 is not only the best age for retirement but also for starting a small business. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government meeting.

“I believe that in the 21st century, ages 63 or 65, even 70-75, belong to a completely different category. This means that it is a very good, thriving age for a person, provided they are healthy. If a person is not healthy, even being 29 can be a problem,” he noted.

According to the Prime Minister, the speculation that these discussions are preparing for a change in pension age is not related to reality. “For example, why is it difficult to raise pensions, esteemed colleagues? For one reason: the number of pensioners is very large—660,000 people. This means that increasing the pension by 1,000 drams implies a permanent expense of tens of billions, which is not something that can be easily reversed or interrupted,” added Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
