Intelligence Will No Longer Be One of the Main Directions of Service Activity, Says Deputy Director of NSS
Starting from January 1, 2026, intelligence will no longer be one of the main directions of service activity. The boundaries of external counterintelligence activities by the service will be clarified, as well as the process of utilizing various information systems by the service. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the National Security Service of Armenia, Esai Mkrtchyan, at today’s session of the National Assembly.
“Opportunities for recruitment into professional positions requiring specialized knowledge in the service will be provided for individuals over the age of 30, and the process for transitioning to service in border guard troops and special units will be somewhat simplified. In the case of criminal prosecution of a service member, a monthly compensation of 50% of the official salary will be paid for the entire period of their availability for service. The regulations regarding the dismissal of a service member due to health conditions will be clarified,” stated Mkrtchyan.
According to him, when awarding the next rank to individuals who previously served in the Armed Forces, police, Emergency Situations Ministry, and special police, the period of service in those bodies with the given rank will be taken into account.
