Galoyan on Participation of Prison Deputy Director's Son in Brutal Assault

The Minister of Justice, Srbuhi Galoyan, addressing a recently circulated video on the internet showing a group of teenagers brutally beating and humiliating another boy, stated that the powers of Ruben Gasparyan, the deputy director of the Armavir penitentiary, will not be revoked solely because his son is one of those involved in the assault on a student from the Noyemberyan State College in Zorakan village.

"If evidence is obtained that is incompatible with the continuation of his powers, we will discuss that issue. If we were to remove him, it would appear as though we are simply settling a score," the Minister stated.

She emphasized that they have not yet received any information suggesting that the father hindered the investigation or in any way influenced the pre-trial proceedings, or attempted to create conditions for his son to serve his sentence under better circumstances. She pointed out that it can be viewed positively that even the child of a prison service employee could be transferred to the penitentiary to serve their sentence.
