Corruption Scandal in the EU May Strain Relations Between Kallas and von der Leyen
The corruption scandal in the EU may exacerbate the already tense relations between the head of European Union diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Politico reports.
The publication highlights that von der Leyen, whose transparency has already been called into question, will have to find a way to overcome the scandal involving European officials that emerged at the beginning of her presidency at the European Commission.
A source from Politico indicated that forces opposing von der Leyen within the EU will attempt to leverage the scandal against her.
Earlier, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) confirmed the searches at the headquarters of the EU diplomatic service and the arrest of three individuals as part of an investigation into alleged fraud related to a training program intended for EU-funded young diplomats.
