Belgium Rejects EU Proposal to Provide Loan to Ukraine

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Prevocht has declared that utilizing a scheme involving the seizure of Russian assets for a "recovery loan" poses high risks and is the worst way to support Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, Belgium has rejected the European Union's proposal to use frozen Russian assets to provide credit support to Kyiv.

This statement comes ahead of the European Commission's legislative initiative to use approximately €210 billion in frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia to secure loans for Ukraine.

Prior to a NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels today, Maxim Prevocht stated, "The text presented by the Commission does not sufficiently address our concerns."

Prevocht suggests funding Kyiv through a pan-European loan rather than through the seizure of Russian assets.
