Hakob Arshakyan on Not Running in the 2026 Parliamentary Elections

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan announced that he will not be running for inclusion in the proportional list of the Civil Contract party in the 2026 parliamentary elections. Arshakyan shared this information during a conversation with journalists.

“In 2021, I was elected as a member of the National Assembly on the Civil Contract list, and subsequently became the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. I have seen that democracy in Armenia is under threat, and I have been involved in political processes,” Arshakyan explained.

Continuing, he said, “Now I see that we are at an irreversible point in terms of establishing democracy in Armenia, and our people stand by it with their decisions and votes. I see that our political team is presented with a complete and serious composition on the list. I see that I can be most effective in contributing to the establishment and development of the technological sector and the defense industry in Armenia. I believe I have much greater potential to create value in Armenia with my accumulated experience and knowledge, and I do not wish to understate the fact that I can provide greater service to my country and my people in that capacity.”

He informed that he has not submitted a request to withdraw from the party. “If my activities do not interfere with my party involvement, and they do not, then I have no intention of leaving the party. Because being included in the pre-election list of the National Assembly and becoming a member of the National Assembly conflicts with doing business, and our Constitution prohibits that, I choose the other path,” Hakob Arshakyan stated.
