We Selected the Wrong Types of Ramps: Avinyan

The construction of ramps in Yerevan has been completed. A total of 551 ramps have been built at 286 addresses across 12 administrative districts. This was reported during the regular operational meeting of the Yerevan City Hall today.

“In general, a very important and significant job has been done,” said Mayor Tigran Avinyan. He then made several observations regarding the project in this context.

“It should be systematic, meaning we cannot simply have isolated ramps in one or two locations; there must be comprehensive solutions. I would like to mention the problems that I have noticed: in some cases, we have chosen the wrong types of ramps, in the sense that we selected ramps that only rise in one direction when, in fact, we should have had approaches from three sides,” he stated.

He added that perhaps we need to focus our attention on this issue. “Making our city more inclusive and accessible to public spaces continues to be among our priorities. This means that whenever we work, we envision how a person using a wheelchair or a stroller would navigate through the environment. If it’s not possible to pass, we don’t proceed with the work in that manner; we change it,” the mayor concluded.
