The City Must Become More Inclusive and Accessible for Everyone: Tigran Avinyan

The construction of ramps in Yerevan has been fully completed. Ramps have been built at 551 locations across the 12 administrative districts of the capital. This was reported during the December 1 operational consultation of Yerevan's Municipality.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted that a significant and important amount of work has been carried out, and he presented several observations regarding the project. “I thank you for emphasizing that the work should be systematic. There cannot be a segmented approach where ramps are only constructed in 1-2 locations. Comprehensive solutions must be ensured.

At the same time, I want to address the issues that have been observed. In some places, the typology of the ramps has been incorrectly selected; in certain areas, a ramp that rises in one direction has been used, whereas a solution that provides access from three sides was necessary. This issue needs to be given special attention,” Avinyan stressed.

The mayor added that making the city more inclusive and accessible for everyone continues to be a priority.

“Whenever we carry out work, we envision how a person will traverse the area using a wheelchair or a stroller independently. If there is no free and convenient accessibility, the work needs to be re-evaluated and proper solutions must be implemented,” he said.
