Hungary's Prime Minister's Translator Misinterprets Putin's Remarks

The translator for Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has misinterpreted Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements regarding Ukraine, reports Telex.

While the translator correctly conveyed the greeting and conclusion, there were significant discrepancies in the main portion of the translation. For instance, Putin's remark that “we have known each other personally for a long time” was translated as “I am glad that you visited us.”

When Putin told Orbán that Russia is aware of his “balanced position on the Ukrainian issue,” the translator rendered it as “I know that international politics, of course, also affects you.”

The ruling party's press service claimed that the translation was conducted by their best specialist, who allegedly had difficulty hearing Putin and might not have been having a good day.
