Lawyer Discusses Issues in the Investigation of Archbishop Arshak Srabazhan's Case
In a conversation with journalists in the premises of the Mother Cathedral, lawyer Arsen Babayan stated that at this stage he cannot say more than what Archbishop Arshak Srabazhan has already disclosed. He noted that their demand has been to clarify whether hatred is being incited against the Church and Archbishop Arshak Srabazhan, but he is confident that such an investigation will not take place.
Babayan emphasized that, aside from the disclosure of pre-investigative secrets, there are issues concerning individual rights in the case. “If the decision was supposed to be presented to Archbishop Arshak Srabazhan from the very beginning and was not presented but later sent for examination and a conclusion was obtained in one day, which was provided to another person, it is obvious that there is no objectivity here,” he said, adding that trusting such processes is “absurd.”
The lawyer also pointed out that he sees a violation of the constitution here, as according to the Constitution, secular power cannot perform any actions within spiritual authority. In his view, a series of criminal acts are being carried out.
When asked whether church issues are resolved in the government, Babayan replied that the government is attempting to take such steps and exert influence or pressure on the Church through certain clergy.
It is noteworthy that yesterday the Investigative Committee announced that it has received an expert conclusion confirming that Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan is depicted in the videos.
