Turkish Authorities Report Fires on Two Oil Tankers in the Black Sea
Turkish authorities have reported fires on two oil tankers in the Black Sea following an 'external strike.' Both vessels are subject to Western sanctions as part of Russia's 'shadow fleet' used for oil trading.
A fire broke out on the empty tanker KAIROS while traveling towards the Russian port of Novorossiysk, approximately 28 miles from our shores, which is believed to have been caused by an external strike. The condition of the 25 crew members is reported to be good. Our rescue teams have been dispatched to the area to evacuate the sailors, and the situation is under control,” the Turkish Ministry of Transport stated.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport, the second tanker, VIRAT, is reported to have been struck approximately 35 nautical miles from the Black Sea. “Rescue teams and a commercial vessel have been sent to the scene. All 20 crew members on board are in good condition. The situation is under control,” the Turkish Ministry of Transport announced.
No further details have been released, and there has been no comment from the Russian side as of yet.
