New Regulations for Old Vehicles and Mining Due to Air Pollution, Says Alen Simonyan
In Armenia, strict legislative regulations are set to be introduced in the near future to address the issue of air pollution. These regulations will pertain to the operation of old vehicles, the activities of construction companies, and the mining industry. This announcement was made by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, during an extraordinary session of the parliament.
According to Simonyan, the level of air pollution is high across the republic, and it has increased several times in Yerevan due to the city's geography. He reminded that, upon the Prime Minister's instructions, a working group has been established to tackle this issue.
The Speaker of the National Assembly pointed out that ecological issues have been neglected for years, and that responsibility falls on everyone involved. "We have taken this issue too lightly. Our fault, the fault of all of us, lies in climate and ecological matters," said Simonyan.
He noted that the new legislative initiatives will inevitably impact certain groups, but they are necessary to protect the health of the population. Simonyan emphasized that the operation of old vehicles, mining activities, and construction companies will be under strict supervision.
