Belgian Prime Minister Warns of Risks to Ukraine's Peace Program
According to the Financial Times, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, warning against actions that could disrupt the peace program intended for Ukraine.
De Wever highlighted that the confiscation of Russia's frozen assets threatens to jeopardize potential agreements for conflict resolution. He suggested utilizing the unused credit capacity of the EU's general budget to provide loans to Ukraine, noting that this way, the EU could allocate €45 billion to Kyiv.
Next week, the European Commission will address the legal initiative regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. The initiative will be presented despite strong objections from Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Preveo during the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
