Japanese Retiree Consumes Poisonous Mushroom Following Artificial Intelligence Advice

A 70-year-old resident of Japan consumed a poisonous mushroom based on advice from a neural network, as reported by Japan Today.

The retiree went to a botanical garden seeking consultation, but without any advice, uploaded pictures of the mushrooms to the neural network for identification. The artificial intelligence confirmed that the mushrooms were safe, so the retiree cooked and ate them.

Half an hour later, he experienced symptoms of poisoning and was hospitalized. The poisoning was mild, and he soon recovered. The publication reported that tests showed he had consumed the toxic Japanese omphalotes, a mushroom that is often mistakenly considered edible.
