Iran Plans to Carry Freight to Armenia via Nakhichevan

Iran is exploring the possibility of supplying Armenia with freight via railway routes that would pass through the territory of Nakhichevan. This was announced by the head of Iranian Railways, Jabbar Ali Zakeri.

According to him, discussions were held during the 83rd meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS with representatives from the Armenian railway operator, South Caucasus Railways CJSC. The main topic of negotiations was the transportation of certain types of freight from Iran to Armenia towards Nakhichevan.

“This process will allow the launch of railway communication with Nakhichevan in the future. We are committed to implementing this project as quickly as possible,” Zakeri stated.
