It Does Not Correspond to Reality: Peskov on Assad's Wife's Decision

The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on the reports about Asma Assad, the wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, requesting special permission to leave the Russian Federation, stating that this is not true. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“No, that does not correspond to reality,” Peskov said in response to reporters' questions regarding whether Assad's wife has decided to divorce, wants to leave Russia, and whether the former president’s movements in Russia are restricted while his assets are frozen.

Earlier, some Turkish media outlets reported that Asma Assad is preparing to divorce and leave for abroad.

On December 8, representatives of the armed opposition in Syria seized the state television in Damascus and announced on air that they have established control over the country.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had decided to resign and leave the country after negotiations with several participants in the conflict. According to official information, he is currently in Russia.
