Slovakia May Sue the EU: Robert Fico

Slovakia is exploring the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the European Union regarding EU programs that mandate the cessation of Russian gas supplies starting from 2028. This was announced by the country's Prime Minister, Robert Fico, who indicated that the government will discuss the relevant document next week but did not elaborate on the legal basis of the process.

Slovakia and Hungary have criticized the EU's plan to gradually abandon Russian energy resources, explaining that their economies are still largely dependent on gas and oil from Moscow, and that more expensive alternatives could harm their economies.

Last month, EU energy ministers supported a proposal to gradually halt the import of Russian oil and gas within the EU by January 2028. Final regulations must be agreed upon between EU countries and the European Parliament, which is still discussing its position.
