Stoltenberg Accuses Iran
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has commented on the attack on the American military base in Jordan, stating that Iran is "destabilizing the region."
“Iran continues to destabilize the region and is responsible for supporting terrorists who are attacking ships in the Red Sea. Iran’s behavior demonstrates what the world looks like without rules: unpredictable and dangerous,” he noted.
It is recalled that on Sunday, an attack by a drone on the American military base located near the Syria-Jordan border resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers and injuries to 25 others. John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council, stated that the United States will certainly respond to the attack on its forces in the Middle East, and will choose the timing and method of that response.
The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, reports that U.S. military personnel were unable to prevent the drone attack at the base in the Middle East because they mistook the enemy drone for their own. According to the publication, the enemy drone was approaching the base simultaneously with the return of an American drone.
The publication writes that in light of the incident, the U.S. is considering the option of striking “militants” in Iraq, Syria, and Iran, although officials admit that attacks on Iranian territory seem unlikely.
