Azerbaijan’s Influence in Georgian Rail Freight Transportation Is Increasing

According to data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia, 9.5% of the total volume of railway freight transportation has been attributed to domestic transfers within the country. International freight transport accounted for 32.4%, while the largest share, 58.1%, comprised transit freight.

The report notes that during the observed period, 32% of the goods imported into Georgia by rail came from Azerbaijan, while 29.1% were from Russia. Compared to the previous quarter, Azerbaijan's share has increased by 1.7 percentage points, which experts attribute to the activation of transit flows in the region.

In the structure of delivered goods, the largest share—37.7%—was made up of coke (a high-strength artificial solid fuel) and refined petroleum products. They were followed by chemical products, synthetic fibers, rubber and plastic types, comprising a 20.6% indicator. Products related to the geological industry accounted for 12.6% of the total volume of freight transportation.
