Decision on Samvel Karapetyan's Detention Measure to Be Announced Soon

The judge in Samvel Karapetyan's case will announce the decision today at 11:30 AM.

Yesterday, the court examined the motion to extend the detention of businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

It is noteworthy that Samvel Karapetyan has been in custody since June 18. He has been charged with publicly calling for the usurpation of power and the overthrow of the constitutional order.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that the charge against Karapetyan has been amended to include clauses 2 and 3 of part 3 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code (the laundering of funds in particularly large amounts using powers or influence related to governmental or official authority).

Karapetyan has denied the charges brought against him. "We have clearly substantiated that there is no reasonable suspicion at all regarding the three so-called episodes," stated Aram Vardevanyan, Karapetyan's lawyer, during a conversation with reporters in front of the courthouse.
